Midwinter Concert Program

Flute Choir

Our ensemble consists of musicians of various skill levels ranging from novice to professionals.  Our goal is to continue learning our craft and share our love of music with our community.  There are neither auditions nor fees to join the group so if you're 18+ and love to play the flute, come and join us!

Founder - Mary Hegdal

Founder Mary Hegdal started the Fiesta Flutes Choir in San Antonio after experiencing the unique sound of an all flute ensemble at a flute festival in May 2005. Zion Lutheran Church graciously agreed to provide rehearsal space and scheduled performance opportunities for services. Mary formed the choir with only four members to start, and as membership increased, Fiesta Flutes established weekly rehearsals every Thursday night.

Mary's vision was inclusive of all adult flutists and created Fiesta Flutes without auditions or dues. The choir continues to grow with a membership of 38 flutists from all walks of life including professional musicians and enthusiasts. Everyone is welcome to play different parts and focus on sharing their talents while making music together.

Fiesta Flutes has played various venues from churches, libraries, and small town festivals to the UTSA and University of North TX Denton Flute Festivals, the Austin Flute Festival, and the Tobin Center for the Performing Arts. As it grows, Mary's vision continues to entertain, inspire, and bring joy to both the performers and audiences of central Texas.
